I'm not Jewish but am still completely sickened by the antisemitism coming from pride orgs. But even if i were to put that to one side, I feel like I don't even know why queer people care (or claim to care) about palestine so much more than the current rolling back of their own human rights?
Like, the massively antisemitic statement put out by the Dyke March was obviously bigoted and disgusting but also why on earth is 'combating zionism' more important to a queer rights group than queer rights?
It just makes me feel crazy that not only are these people participating in hate movements but are so fucking wrapped up in their hate filled little make-believe fantasies that they are completely ignoring their own lives and happiness.
I appreciate this ask. I think it’s just another avenue for antisemitism to seem “woke” to put it bluntly. Antisemitism seeps into all parts of society, and queer orgs aren’t immune. They see the propaganda and buy in hook line and sinker. They think that they’re defending the “right” side because they view Palestinians as more oppressed than Israelis, not realizing that Israelis are indigenous to Israel despite history and biology blatantly proving them wrong. Genocide is a scary word, so they don’t want to be siding with these genociders, in their minds.
I think that there’s also this element of thinking Jews are privileged and that rubs queer orgs the wrong way because a lot of them do play oppression Olympics. It’s a really complicated topic but ultimately queer orgs as a whole have made the culture incredibly toxic for Jews and they have a lot of work to do if they want us to feel safe.

I have a boss who has made troubling statements, including Holocaust denial, saying, “It’s understandable to question if it actually happened because there is so little proof.” They are verbally and visibly pro-Palestinian, with a history of attending protests—which, of course, is their right outside of work. However, when I’ve been forced into several conversations about these topics, I’ve tried to explain a humanist philosophy, advocating for peace for all in the conflict but a connected and felt pain for the community I am a part of before swiftly disengaging. In response, I’ve been accused of sounding like “all lives matter” and was attacked for refusing to “pick a side.”
I try to address these topics delicately because I strongly believe they don’t belong in the workplace. Yet, I’ve also felt compelled to offer a counter-narrative which is met with hostility.
Additionally, my boss has publicly identified me as Jewish in workplace meetings without my permission. They’ve shared statements like, “pride flags mean a place is safe.” I responded by explaining that I used to feel the same, but no longer do after events like the Dyke March. I expressed that the pride flag doesn’t always mean safety for everyone, including Jews. I was then asked if I was “against LGBTQIA+” and tried to clarify that I fully support the community but have concerns based on lived experiences.
I was also told that the Star of David is a hate symbol. For a holiday desk decorating competition, I was told I could not display it and should use a menorah instead.
This boss already had a formal complaint filed against them for spreading slanderous gossip about an employee who spoke out against them. The result? The person who filed the complaint was given the choice to switch departments (at a lower pay rate) or resign. They chose to resign.
In the workplace, my boss frequently brings up non-work-related topics and makes it clear that if you’re not “their friend,” you’ll be gossiped about to other staff. Unfortunately, I am stuck working in a closed office with them for 40 hours a week.
I don’t trust HR to handle this fairly, given their past actions, and I feel isolated. I am actively looking for another job, but I moved 17 hours away for this position just three months ago and support my partner financially, so leaving isn’t an immediate option. Besides this person I also really enjoy the job and have worked so hard to get into this title and role in my career.
I’m reaching out to the #jumblr community for advice or guidance. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
(For context, I’ve only recently started exploring my Jewish identity over the past two years. My grandmother converted to Christianity, but my mother grew up experiencing both traditions—attending temple with my great-grandparents while also going to church. I was raised in a more secular way, what some might call “Christmas-tree Jewish.” It’s only recently that I’ve begun my personal journey with my faith and identity, and I’m still discovering what it means to me.)

Very deeply loved and adored his wife. He did everything he could for her, but it just wasn’t enough. Glynis’ worsening mental state became too much for either of them to handle, and Gorrister didn’t know what to do. Sending her to a mental hospital was a non-option, things got worse, and she commuted suicide. He blames himself for it every day of his life.

C-PTSD as a diagnosis makes so much sense for Ford because he really does fit almost all of the criteria, ESPECIALLY if you take the stuff in J3 into account in conjunction with his traumatic childhood (bullying, bad dad, etc.). It just makes sense in regards to his motivations and his issues with interpersonal relationships (like with Stan). Also buring yourself in your work (like he does) is a very common 'flight' coping mechanism to trauma in adults
Tumblr media
I'm smiling like this right now
Tumblr media
ford's whole.... mental health deal is extremely interesting to examine because Oh my god this man is the textbook image for "reacting to ongoing, continuous trauma". intentional or otherwise (I'm inclined to believe it's both).
like. okay hang on I'm about to get very in depth with it
I feel like there's no way this entire guy's life and in some ways his lasting identity haven't been defined by and constructed around various forms of trauma, maybe the most obvious and true-to-canon-intent being peer abuse/bullying from childhood. a lot of people downplay the impact of this type of abuse but it's... responsible for a lot of social ills in shocking ways. (if you're more interested in this topic here is an article my friend mer linked me a while back, it gets into it very deeply)
Tumblr media
(a lot of this is going to be sourced from the wikipedia page for CPTSD [and my own experience Living with it] which I realize isn't very professional of me but Whatever this is tumblr)
one of the core tenets of ford's personality is that he's Different. he owns it, sure- his six fingers become a point of pride rather than something to be ashamed of- but they make it extremely clear that from a young age he associated being different with being a social pariah. ford's generation was characterized by notoriously cruel bullying, and anything that remotely made you stand out rendered you a target. ford could've been bullied for being nerdy and jewish (and failing to perform socially, ie dating) alone, having such an obvious mutation definitely was not winning him any points.
so it's honestly no surprise, when from childhood ford feels like he has One person in the world to trust and confide in, that he would go on to form very unhealthy attachment patterns typical of CPTSD. as you elaborated on regarding AvPD (which I know far less about but seems to have comorbidity with CPTSD): if you're hard-wired to believe socializing with others results in failure or betrayal, then you're not going to make an effort. but what does end up happening is that you're going to pour all of your trust and dependency into one person at a time, one person who is "safe".
previously, that was his brother. and it's not really hard to draw the conclusion from there that fiddleford was a subject of ford's attachment style, considering he was his One friend from college, and... one of Maybe two people ford is friends with at all who he isn't related to. he cites him as the only person he can possibly trust to work on the portal project alongside him, and he still can't bring himself to tell him the full truth, because he's terrified of losing him. I love their dynamic (I do think they were mutual best friends, and there was no small amount of trust reciprocated between them. "fiddleford was weird as hell too" is something I keep coming back to) and I don't think it's built on entirely unhealthy terms, but that kind of pressure is... setting things up to crash and burn.
Tumblr media
enter bill stage left. back to "continuous yearning to be liked and accepted"- this guy knew that and made every effort to prey on ford's insecurities to reel him in as close as possible. this is what really pisses me off about the idea that bill was just "inflating ford's ego", because it's way, way more insidious than that. throughout the entirety of journal 3 we see ford reintroduce someone to his life he has a very positive relationship with (fiddleford) and how that trust gets gradually broken down by bill's influence "winning out" over their friendship. I think it's safe to say ford was already vulnerable: from the start, he'd been isolated in his research for six years (and it's unclear for how long he'd known bill by 1982), and bill proved time and time again to be someone who wouldn't judge him, someone who would praise him for his hard work, and perhaps most critically, make him feel like being different was something special.
like that's... that's really not good!!!! and that kind of thing works wonders on someone who has already settled with the idea that they're inclined to be alone just by design.
trying to put a cap on this. in relationships like the one he's had with his brother or fiddleford it doesn't even necessarily have to be ""toxic"" (vague term anyway) or outwardly bad to be built on unhealthy attachment patterns, and considering for a good chunk of ford's life his attachment to others can be characterized as "I can only trust ONE person at a time" it feels essential to any discussion of his CPTSD or canon trust issues. That is something that happens a lot in Real cases of CPTSD (hi) and only further snowballs into More trauma by leaving you vulnerable to manipulation and abuse (see: bill.)
I've been going on for way too long now and I feel like I've only scratched the surface of the thing I wanted to elaborate on sorry. that post traumatic stress disorder can complex

Woah that's so interesting.
I have so many questions because I really do love your account and how you think. You are very wise!
Why do you think anti Zionist Jews fail so terribly at creating a better alternative to Zionism? Would you say part of the reason is because they tend to be completely assimilated therefore lacking any sort of Jewishness and depth of knowledge about Judaism? Do you think the Left requires that Leftist Jews do not have a Jewish identity?
2. Has there been any interesting approaches to anti Zionism that has caught your eye? Do you know of any Zionists who wrote critiques of Zionism in a "I want this to be better and improve" type of way? You mentioned Bundism and how it failed while Zionism is still here. Why do you think Zionism survived? Are there any leftist/progressive/communist Zionist pieces you can recommend in general?
3. This is off topic but do you know any books articles etc that talk extensively about the theft of Jewishness especially through the two major world religions Christianity and Islam?
4. What makes Zionism so different from the Black Power Movements and Pan Arabism? People are fine with the latter but obsessively hate Zionism. Why? I mean, yes antisemitism but why is Jewish pride such a threat to people especially communists and the like? Why do the most intelligent POC and queers etc hate Zionism while supporting Islamism and Muslim extremist groups? Why are we such a threat to other marginalized groups?
1) I do think assimilation as well as lack of knowledge as to how assimilation is both infeasible and anti-jewish as a solution to jewish oppression leads many anti-zionist jews to erroneously believe assimilation is a viable alternative to Zionism, yes. When I said anti-zionist jews currently have no real remaining credible alternative to zionism though I meant that even anti-zionists who aren't assimilationists don't really have an answer to it and this isn't through any unique failing of theirs so much as there simply aren't good alternatives to nationalism generally at this point in time. Anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism largely mean nationalism in practice. When Russia launches a war to conquer Ukraine, the only meaningful way to protect Ukrainians from that oppression is to support the continued existence of their sovereignty.
I don't think it's remotely leftist to require that jews sacrifice their jewish identity. When I criticize leftists for essentially requiring this of us, this is a criticism I am making from the left, of the left, as a leftist jew.
2) I'm primarily interested in anti-zionism as an iteration of antisemitism, namely identifying the reasons why it's politically useful across various contexts, because the functions it serves are relevant to being able to understand and combat it. These for instance.
As for the second question really that's every zionist's critique of zionism. Sometimes they're even right.
As for zionism's survival, prior to Israel's establishment jews being a tiny, fractured people meant our political movements were largely impotent in the face of any opposition from non jews. Then as now, non jews hostile to us are far more numerous, far more electorally and politically significant, and far better resourced than we can ever be, let alone the non jews indifferent to us. Being unable to simply impose ourselves, anything we sought to accomplish politically required sufficient non-jewish buy-in. Zionism was the only political solution of ours that due to its being possible to align with their own interests could garner meaningful support from even antisemitic non jews. A good book on this subject.
As for leftist zionist recommendations, there's no more comprehensive treatment I know of than Albert Memmi's trilogy on the subject:
Portrait of a Jew
The Liberation of the Jew
Jews and Arabs
For something shorter here's a collection prepared in the wake of 10/7:
Additional piece I feel should be included on account of I think the failure to recognize the dynamic described is the source of a lot of confusion:
And I am not an ideological leftist so for socialist perspectives I will defer to others I know:
3) Check out Anti-Judaism: The Western Tradition and Islamic Imperialism: A History.
4) Pretty much all of that originates in the 1960's and derives from the soviet anti-zionist campaign in conjunction with the ascending political power of postcolonial states in Asia and Africa. The chief concern of the African states was anti-colonialism, epitomized by the fight against apartheid, and the arab states seized on the opportunity to broker an alliance: in exchange for the support of the arab states on fighting apartheid, African diplomats would accede to arab demands that Israel be treated like a western colonial power in UN human rights matters.

ABOUT:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHARACTER SHEET:
Items in italics are not canon, but will play into this portrayal of the character.
NAME: Egon Zephaniah Spengler
DOB: November 21, 1946
SEXUALITY: Non-specified (gray-asexual)
POSITIVE TRAITS: Intelligent, hard-working, observant, insightful, curious, reserved, independent, innovative.
NEGATIVE TRAITS: Detached, guarded, isolated, avoidant, prideful, prone to rage, high-strung.
LIKES: Junk food, various scientific (and pseudo-) fields, music, art, poetry, architecture, reading, coffee, naps, thunderstorms, alone time
DISLIKES: Slimy textures, tasteless food, excessive physical touch, crowds, cilantro, heat, slander, chewing noises, sports
Tumblr media
CANONICITY:
PRIME: This portrayal of Egon Spengler is canon-compliant and based upon how he is depicted in the first two movies and subsequent video game. Characteristics from the novelization may also crop up.
SECONDARY: This portrayal is also influenced by the IDW comics version of Egon and, to a much lesser degree, the cartoon version. On occasion, he may make reference to things which would later show up in Afterlife or Frozen Empire, but that will be rare.
OTHER: Not everything this version of Egon Spengler says is strictly canon. While the portrayal is strongly rooted in canon, much of it will be based upon popular headcanon and what makes logical sense for the character to say/do/think/feel.
Tumblr media
FURTHER NOTES:
Egon will be written as autistic, Jewish, and grayasexual. However, given that he only knows the development of terminology up until 1991, he will not explicitly say that he falls on the autistic or asexual spectrums.
The goal of this blog is that each response/plot line either be interesting, funny, or scary. All of it will be appropriate for the Ghostbusters universe and rooted in canon portrayals.
Egon does not swear excessively in the movies, video game, novelization, or comics. This portrayal will remain true to that aspect of his character, but he will make use of lighter profanities from time to time.
The writer is an adult, but will not tolerate or write NSFW or 18+ content on this blog. If Egon does speak about more mature topics, it will be in his characteristic science-minded style.
He functions primarily on a queue and answers oldest asks first. So if your ask has not yet been answered, chances are it’s in his queue and will be posted soon.

Disney has been delivered a crushing blow in its lawsuit battle with former The Mandalorian star Gina Carano.
The actor, 41, is suing the studio, alongside Lucasfilm, for discrimination and wrongful termination after the former MMA fighter was dropped from the Star Wars spin-off in February 2021 for sharing a social media post in which she appeared to compare the Republican experience in the US to that of Jewish people during the Holocaust.
Carano filed a complaint in California federal court, with help from X/Twitter owner Elon Musk, accusing the entertainment companies of damaging her reputation and discriminating her based on her gender. As part of the lawsuit, Carano questioned why the studios did not give similar treatment to her former co-star Pedro Pascal over posts he shared on topical subjects.
While Disney attempted to have the lawsuit thrown out, stating that Carano’s decision “to publicly trivialise the Holocaust by comparing criticism of political conservatives to the annihilation of millions of Jewish people was the final straw”, a judge has denied the studio’s appeal, and the trial will move ahead in September 2025.
US District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett said:“Having considered the parties’ submissions, the relevant law, and the record in this case, the Court DENIES the Motion.”
Carano said in response to the decision: “I am obviously very pleased with the opportunity to keep moving forward with the judicial process and into discovery. While I wish this was not necessary as it is not my desire to be in this battle in court, I will not shrink away from it because it is hard or uncomfortable.”
The Independent has contacted Disney for additional comment.
In a section of the lawsuit titled “Social Media Posts from Carano’s Co-Stars”, Carano questioned Disney and Lucasfilm’s lack of response to posts shared on X/Twitter by her former co-star Pascal, with whom she previously claimed to reach an agreement with over their opposing beliefs.
The lawsuit reads: “Carano respects the rights of her co-stars to express their views on social media, even if they differ from her own, and she remains personally fond of each of them. However, Defendants’ treatment of Carano stands in stark contrast to Defendants’ embrace of her male co- stars and other male employees, so the following examples are provided to demonstrate the discriminatory treatment Carano endured at the hands of Defendants.”
Carano’s lawyers then cited posts in which Pascal supported Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ+ rights, stating: “On June 27, 2020, Pascal posted two Disney-owned Muppet characters, Bert and Ernie, as activists waving a transgender and LGBTQ+ pride flag and promoting ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘Defund the Police’.”
Another post shared in the lawsuit shows Pascal comparing Donald Trump to Hitler.
It reads: “Upon information and belief, Pascal was not disciplined, required to review documentaries on any of these topics or speak to individuals with contrary points of view, or pressured to apologise for any of his posts. His employment was not terminated, and Defendants made no public statements about his social media posts, much less refer to them as ‘abhorrent’.”
Carano is seeking a court order that would force Lucasfilm to recast her and at least $75,000 (£57,500), plus punitive damages.

I don’t know how to explain to you that abuse victims are also capable of believing and perpetuating harmful and bigoted conspiracies and it doesn’t make their abuse fake and it also doesn’t make it super fine and cool for them to do that. Abuse is not a permission slip to perpetuate systemic violence.
Also, you’re a narc abuse supporter too, right? Because no one is allowed to critique the terminology used by survivors for any reason and if you do you’re fake claiming?
Mod Quill here alongside Mod Dude, because your ask is so off the wall confusing to me upon reading Dude's draft that I couldn't resist chiming in.
First, let's address the second part: Narc abuse is not only not part of this conversation, nor any amount of relevant to the antisemitism that Jewish individuals face, but also is simply you trying to obfuscate from the point you're failing to make. As someone who has struggled to unlearn ableism about narcissism, as someone who has had to unpack internalized trauma about pride, love, and "selfishness," I'm fucking offended that you brought this up as some sort of gotcha about JEWISH PEOPLE.
It's completely out of line to bring an unrelated topic into this. You're reaching at this point, flailing around and spouting bullshit to change topics because you've got nothing tangible to back your claims. Now you just want me to look bad because that's your last hope to walk away with any credibility.
I find it far more ableist to use narcissism and the ableism directed at both survivors of abuse and those with narcissistic personality disorder as a gotcha about RAMCOA. Narcissistic people are not your weapon in syscourse to be used.
Ugh. Okay. Now that that particular bit of disgusting drivel is addressed, let's get to all the rest.
By "abuse victims," I'm assuming you're referring to svali, based on the conversation being had on this blog. Pray tell, what do you believe she's doing and perpetuating? What systemic violence is she enacting? If her story is true, she has every right to say all the things she's saying, doesn't she? Where are we drawing the lines between sharing their story and systematic violence?
More importantly, and to the point here. Can Miller be connected to Svali's more "out there" claims? When was even the last time Miller quoted Svali? 2018? That's seven years ago. What did we know about Svali at that time, 7 years ago?
I'm not disagreeing with you; any community member can fall prey to harmful beliefs and conspiracies, regardless of what history they have. You are not immune to propaganda, etc etc..
You're right.
Tumblr media
This is exactly what you are doing.
You are perpetuating a conspiracy about RAMCOA without any sources that actually discuss these topics. You cannot sit there and scream that every person who disagrees with you must be antisemetic -- or even worse, as some people are doing, suggesting that Jewish people who aren't following the Hate-Wagon are "token Jews." You do realize the mods include Jewish individuals? We're not simply talking out our asses, we are talking from a place of research and anti-bullshit.
Sadly, you are FULL of bullshit, so we are anti-you at the moment.
I can critique your logic on this topic without it coming from a place of bigotry. I am so, so tired of this discussion. The term RAMCOA was changed to OEA because of this bullshit discussion topic -- almost like the ISSTD did exactly what you all have been shouting about, addressing the (non)issue and trying to move away from the allegations of antisemitism.
When did that change occur? Oh, 5 years ago? Five fucking years ago? Five years of you all being able to access the resources, like Salter talking about the terms falling out of favor and needing to change? Or are we going with the idea that they did this for evil, bad reasons because they're secretly evil and bad, or maybe that the Gray Faction is the reason why the name change happened, like they've been pushing?
For fucks sakes. If you aren't going to give us something to debunk, then just go away.
~~~
Mod Signal here, popping in to advise that yeah!! Abuse survivors can absolutely be full of bigoted opinions and misconceptions. There are all sorts of horrifying campaigns out there whose express purpose is utilizing the fears of the marginalized, turning them against each other. These movements often outwardly claim to support a group of people only to have their own sordid, horrifying histories with that group.
To the point that when those campaigns get into hot water, their go-to lawyers are ones who are infamous for defending white supremacists and conspiracy theorists.
You know. The thing they were trying to get you to call other marginalized people, with the express purpose of systemically erasing them.
... Cough.
Anyway, as the Jewish Mod(TM), I'm declaring that you should probably keep accusations of antisemitism out of your fucking mouth while you yourself tokenize and patronize us just to try and kick a different group of systemically ignored people down the stairs.
The satanic panic was a bullshit period of time. OEA was a good-ass name change in my personal opinion. It's more accurate and it protects survivors against shitheads like you.
Okay so this is probably super weird to ask you, but I’m basically just asking if you can help me find the right place to look. We (a system) were raised christian, and it was honestly a very progressive church (runs like five homeless shelters, very diverse, current minister is loved by everyone and is also an openly bi woman, and had pride flags in every window regardless of month until their county police showed up and had to tell them “we’re so sorry, we love what you’re doing and it’s a great stand to take, but we are 100% certain that this’ll get your windows and probably members shot”). The thing is, since they were kind of going it alone with bible interpretation, most of their answers to hard questions were effectively “it means what you think it means”. Most of us have been able to brush it off, but some things have really stuck with me. I’m just very done with the “He is always good, so everything in the bible must also be good” explanation of most christians in my life, or even worse, the claim that “it’s all a part of His plan for each of us, and so you mustn’t question it. So I want to ask: are there any good jewish sources you’d recommend on how to understand certain parts of what we’ve been taught as the old testament? I’m fine with either a good person to ask or some assigned reading.
- Miriam
There are ... so many Jewish sources on that, because that's basically our entire thing, forever. You basically just said, "Explain Judaism?" :)
Uh. You could start here, I guess? Both of these are online & free sources on Jewish writing & beliefs.
Hi everyone! As the Queer Jewish Pride event is in the last stages of planning, I can already give more solid info about the events.
Pride call - we are having a call on Sunday, 16th of June, where we will have a queer religious service (religious as in Jewish obviously), and we will have some time to just socialize with each other, have discussions, etc. The time will still need to be confirmed, as we're trying to accomodate as many timezones as we can.
Queer Jewish Zine - we are trying to put together a Zine, and if you'd like to be a part of it, you absolutely can! There is more info on this in our discord server but to summarize, anyone who is queer and Jewish (or converting) can submit a piece of art in any medium they'd like, centered on the topic of Queer Jewish identity. The Zine will be made available online at the end of Pride month for free. If you want more info and/or want to participate, just DM me and I can give you the sign up sheet.
Book Recs - we are compiling a list of books that feature Queer Jewish characters/themes, and we'll be posting those recommendations sometime this month.
If anyone still wants to join the discord server, you can, just DM me. If you would like to participate in any event without being in the server, that is also possible. And if anyone has any ideas, questions, or suggestions, feel free to reach out!
Sorry I've not been super active recently! I realised I seem to mostly post about Antisemitism and frustrations and I am trying to avoid this being my main topics as I love being Jewish and I want to try and post more Jewish pride things
It's just the this past fortnight has been rough for Jews online and I've just not been feeling very happy so I've tried to avoid spreading the negativity 😂
I love you Jews in my phone - you guys rule and thanks for always being there even when the going is really shitty
Anya is jewish , so she only eats kosher since she converted upon finding out about her heritage. It's one thing she WON'T BUDGE ON , considering food is such a sorted topic due to their past , their diet is something they pay very close attention to.
yes , this is something they pride themselves in.
no , they won't make someone eat kosher with them , but they will refuse the meal if it's not kosher.
she has had lots of fun pulling the kosher card whenever she's locked up. no easy time for the guards.
Is it true that parts of Lily Orchard's 'iconic' "SU is Garbage and here's why"-video were directly stealing from another person's take down of the show?
The story I remember reading somewhere was: a black woman creator was criticizing the show's racism/portrayal of race from her perspective -> LO copied or quoted beat-for-beat bits from said video -> said creator voiced in LO's comments that LO had stolen from her and also -> said creator was uncomfortable with how Lily was handling the Stevonnie topic and found her to be the one making it creepy??? -> Lily blocks, mutes the comments of and makes a hate campaign against said creator for the crime of calling Lily out on her bs -> said creator goes quiet because she kept getting heat from Lily's base.
Is any of this true?
I think, understandably, said creator did not want to be associated with Lily or was tired of getting flaq from Lily's fans, and that may be the reason said creator doesn't want to talk or have their name given out. Understandable. But- I need receipts. I can't cont making this claim confidently if I just don't know the story. I promise if anyone gives me said creator's name (may have changed by now) I won't bother them, name them here or anywhere. I respect privacy and also I totally get wanting to be away from all this.
If Lily ever did a plagerism or not is what I'm trying to get to the bottom of, but I know Lily's [bad] takes against SU are rooted in real criticisms made by not-shit critics that Lily took and made horrible in her uniquely Lily way.
As I've mentioned before I like the Diamonds as villains and characters and even I found the finale arc uncomfortable. I think Steven Universe mishandled the topic of genocide and pacifism, besides just having bad pacing. Other critics have meaner or nicer things to say than I do but the point is it's totally normal and not a mark against you to hate the Diamonds and find the show offensive. Where Lily doubled down and went way WAY too far is when she basically insinuated it couldn't just be bad writing but that Sugar was actually a 'fascist sympathizer' herself; WHICH ofc led to Jewish people being upset with Lily, Lily not apologizing to said people and saying they were just butthurt, which led to mine and other's vibe that Lily was being antisemitic and still is, because she really REALLY can't swallow her pride. Fans obv didn't like this language, but also a lot of critics and 'antis' didn't like it either prolly because being dismissive of marginalized people's takes is kind of bad. There's a difference, even in 2018-2019 tymes, between saying 'ick I hate this [x]-liberal creator for being a false ally, ect ect' and saying 'I'M not saying Rebecca Sugar is fascist, but I WILL SAY-'. THAT was what was shitty and still is shitty about how she handled that situation. Lily was taking a criticism that can/does have validity and being needlessly mean and accusatory with it.
@lillian-v-orchard @mikailaandlilyorchard @opinated-user come pm or dm me about this. Same with anyone else in the know who knows more than I do. I want to know I'm not mandela effecting myself or that I got the info from a biased source. Thanks.
The other day I saw an anarchist blog try to use the fact that Jazz Jenning's family is Jewish as proof of Jews being responsible for the current trans obsessed media. What I want to know, though, is how come any given tumblr or twitter user with a trans pride flag also constantly posts things like "free Palestine" or "from river to sea"? Wouldn't they be in favor of Jews and not want to exterminate them? Sorry I'm trying to use logic on people who don't have any.
Slightly off topic to start, but anarchists support of Hamas is always funny because they'll try to justify it by saying that Israel is a government and governments are all equally evil, but completely ignore that Hamas is the government of Gaza. They were originally voted in, and if there's one thing a lot of anarchists hate more than having the many flaws in their ideology pointed out to them, it's voting. If they're being ideologically consistent, they should hate both sides equally because the conflict seen through the anarchist lens is "two shitty governments fighting each other while innocent people die". That's still the wrong way to interpret it, by the way, but seeing so many anarchists simp for Hamas and go just as mask off about their "criticism of Israel" as the left sure has been interesting to watch.
Anyway.
Yeah, there's a lot of "Jews rule the world" conspiracy nuts in anarchist circles. I honestly think it's probably gotten worse since the MSM started labeling anything that goes against their narrative "conspiracy theories", because that lead to a lot of so-called conspiracy theories being proven right over the last several years. It's made certain people think that conspiracies are correct by default. Weird, long disproven anti-semitic nonsense very much included. Which is why t hey look at one Jew involved with the trans nonsense and blame the whole thing solely on Jews, instead of on politicians and a medical industry raking in money hand over fist by convincing people their depression or autism would go away if they just get expensive, life altering surgery and commit to a lifelong regime or hormone supplements. Trans "treatment" is basically an unethical doctors' dream come true, since it creates a client that will be paying them forever.
hi, i hope this is not an awkward question, i'm only sending you this ask because your blog is a comfort to me and because i am isolated irl at the moment.
would it be appropriate for me to buy a rainbow pride flag with the magen david on it? i am not currently observant, was not really raised as anything particular, but I know that my mom's family is jewish. I got the courage to try and email my campus rabbi RIGHT before Oct. 7th. Now it's almost impossible to do anything with them (not blaming them. it's got to be hard to write emails when you're getting harassed.)
i only ask because i was told at one point that it would be "weird" or possibly even "appropriation" since I'm not fully observant yet. i just want something to make me feel less alone, i don't feel safe going to my campus LGBT club or center anymore. everything and everyone there made me feel like i wasn't a "good" gay/trans person if I felt uncomfortable around people calling for the literal eradication of israel and everyone there. I desperately want to graduate and find my jewish community.
I just want to make sure I'm not being disrespectful in any way by buying this. it'll just go up in a private part of my room for me to stare at when i feel depressed. thank you for your blog! (please feel free to delete this if it's too off-topic!)
If you have even one Jewish grandparent, you are sufficiently Jewish by descent. I am glad to hear you have reached out to your campus rabbi and are working on joining a community, and hope you will get the warm and loving welcome you deserve. I also recommend you keep following up with the rabbi: yes, they are under stress, but this is also their job and they know their community is under stress as well and they need to continue to be available to help.
There is nothing wrong with keeping a Pride flag with the Magen David on it, especially during a time when so many people try to police, remove, or actively destroy our identities. May it bring you comfort and be a milestone of greater engagement with the community.
More on antisemitism within LGBT spaces (in some cases specifically around the Pride flag with the Magen David):
